Sharp Professional Painting Academy is a 5-month training program open to everyone, as well as at-risk youth and ex-offenders.

We teach you the profitable trade of painting.

Important Dates

Open Enrollment: November 1, 2024 - January 20, 2025

Academy Training Course: February 4, 2025 - June 21, 2025

Graduation: June 21, 2025

Weekly Program Structure

In-Class Learning: Tuesday & Thursday, 9 AM to 12 PM (Module 1 & 2)

Field Practice: Tuesday & Thursday, 9 AM - 4:30 PM (Module 3)

On-The-Job Training: Monday - Friday, 9 AM - 4:30 PM (Module 4)

The program consists of relevant classroom instruction, field practice, and on-the-job training. The student must attend classroom training and maintain a perfect attendance record to gain the skills needed to succeed in this program.

Our Curriculum

    • Job Readiness: You will learn work etiquette skills that focus on building character. This course will teach communication skills, interpersonal skills, being on time, dressed in uniform, alert, and ready to work. Will demonstrate role-play scenarios. This course will also address work-related boundaries, rules, and expectations. You will be expected to display integrity, respect, accountability, and responsibility on the job sites, with customers and with their peers.

    • Painter's Handbook: This course will provide you with instructions on how to complete painting projects with professional results. The course will teach you the best way to prepare a surface for painting or repainting, select and use the right materials and tools (including airless spray); tips for repainting kitchens, bathrooms, cabinets, eaves, and porches; and how to match and blend colors.

    • Tools & Equipment: You will learn how to use tools and equipment with techniques and skills. This course will teach you how to use your painting gear appropriately and safely. You will have the opportunity to practice your skills before going on to the work site.

    Weekly Schedule: Tuesday & Thursday, 9 AM to 12 PM

    • OSHA 10 Training: The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) 10-Hour Training course is a safety and health course for entry-level workers that covers general safety and health hazards. The course covers how to identify, avoid, and prevent safety and health hazards, as well as workers' rights and employer responsibilities.  Towards the end of the course the students will need to take an exam with a passing score, the student will receive an OSHA 10 card that says certified.

    • CPR Training: Learn how to save lives in the workplace. This course will teach you how to respond to cardiac or breathing emergencies. The student will practice chest compressions and rescue breathing to help circulate oxygen and blood to the body. The student will be CPR certified once with a passing score.

    Weekly Schedule: Tuesday & Thursday, 9 AM to 12 PM

    • ERA-RRP Exam Prep: This course will prepare you to take the EPA Renovation, Repair, and Painting (RRP) certification exam and explain why this certification is needed and how it can keep you safe. The EPA requires certification for RRP projects in certain buildings to prevent lead poisoning and protect the health of people and residents.

      Once the student has completed this prep course, he/she will be scheduled to take the 8-hour course and the exam at Pro Active Safety Services, 110 Boggs Lane, Suite 110, Cincinnati, Ohio 45246.

    • Field Practice: We partner with Neighbors Who Care to paint homes for the elderly and low-income families. This is an opportunity for the student to practice his/her painting technique.

    Weekly schedule: Tuesday & Thursday, 9 AM - 4:30 PM

    • On-the-Job Training: You will be assigned to a crew to work with a foreman. You will go to job sites and be ready to beautify homes, apartments, office buildings, etc.

    Weekly schedule:Monday - Friday, 9 AM - 4:30 PM

Graduation:

Upon successful completion of the training program, you will be invited to participate in a graduation ceremony with family and friends to celebrate your accomplishment and to receive a certificate of completion.

Interviews:

Based on the completion of the training program and overall performance,  you will be able to request an interview with Sharp Professional Painting Company.

Participant Requirements

To be allowed to apply for enrollment in this program, an individual must first meet the following requirements:

  • Must be 18 years of age or older

  • Must have a state identification card or valid driver’s license

  • Must have transportation 

  • Must have a high school diploma or GED (or working towards getting a GED)

  • Must be physically able to perform the work required of the trade

  • Must be willing to take a drug test

  • Applicants must enroll online, complete the application, and sign waiver
